examples of ethnic minorities in the media
Exotic
Levi roots' advert represents his ethnicity as exotic. This is because it is different to the stereotypical view of black males that we have in the UK which is usually negative and linked to crime and drugs. He challenges this stereotype by making a product that people enjoy. However the mise-en-scene of the advert shows him as a stereotypical jamican, with dreadlocks, singing and the clothes that he wears for example open top
Positive and negative racist stereotypes
In Top Boy there a a lot of black gangs involved with very little use of white people. The white character with the biggest role is the main characters best friend, although it seems that he is put in there just because there is a majority black cast
In Men In Black 3 will smith plays a stereotypical black man. In this clip he has travelled back to 1969 America where racism was acceptable. This scene outlines the racism that was there at the time as they believe that he shouldn't have that car or the suit because he shouldn't be able to afford them. However this conforms to the black stereotype as he has stolen the car, which is a racist stereotype used for humorous reasons. Also he has a gun which adds to the stereotype.

Scenes from the disappearance of Alice Creed
Scenes from the disappearance of Alice Creed
At the start of the first scene of the film the camera moves forward through a car park, and whilst moving through the camera shows the back of the cars that it is moving past. This sets the scene and makes it clear to the audience that the setting for the first scene is a car park. the camera then comes to a van which is being broken into by a man, whilst another man stands at the front of the van looking left and right. We get an extreme close up of the man at the front of the van which shows the audience his clothes and his facial expression. The mise-en-scene of his clothes illustrates to the audience that he is a criminal, we know this because bomber jackets are used a lot in crime films. Also his facial expression shows seriousness and no other emotion like he is on a mission.

This girl can
This Girl Can
The new advert 'This Girl
Can' shows how women can be very independent as oppose to the stereotypical
view that they always need a mans help. Scenes such a mixed race girl boxing
promotes women doing more sport and bring equality into sport. Also there are
many cultures, ethnicities and ages used in the video which shows the audience
that any girl no after what religion or skin colour they have can do it. The
song 'get your freak on' by missy Elliot goes well with the video as it shows a
determined side to the women. The editors have used diegetic and non diegetic
sound in order to create an effect where the music stops and all you can hear
is the women breathing and panting for a couple of seconds then the music comes
back on. This emphasizes the hard work that the women are putting in.
The lighting that they use
is high key because to mke the atmosphere look positive, if the lighting was
low key then the vibe that the advert gives off would not be as intense or
upbeat. It needs to be upbeat as it is a motivational video to try and get more
women to do sports instead of there being more men doing sports.

Media Homework
In order to gather research for my pre
production I used website to create a survey and then I proceeded to send the
link to my classmates so that I could get an idea of what type of music people
like and what they think a certain music genre CD cover should look or the features
of the cover. I also asked people that were not in my class so that I could get
a wide range of answers with allowed me to narrow it down to the most common
responses that I got. The general response I got was that the people that did
the survey and that I spoke to like R&B music. This helped me to look at
the different styles of R&B CD covers.

Our group decided to use this image for our representation task. We chose to represnt Beyonce's 'Girls run the world' album. The objects we chose are all girls or women's accessories whether that be make up or jewellrey. Our group decided to use these objects to represent Beyonce because we chose to represent gender within the media and we felt like Beyonce challenges the stereotypical way that females are represented as she is seen as strong and independent.
